The 2017 World Championship’s of Wake Surfing went down in Kelowna, Canada last weekend and it was action packed. There was a lot on the line with three days of competition and the best riders in the world competing for a world title. It was a great location if you didn’t mind wearing a full suit. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and the temperature was almost perfect being in the 60s everyday. Everyone was really nice in the area and they enjoyed having the World Championship’s held in Kelowna.

Let’s jump into the results. In the Amateur ranks, we had quite a few P5 riders that competed and did very well. In the Junior division, Ryder Duczek whom rides a P5 Scamp and was doing all sorts of tricks took first place. In Amateur Men Skim, P5 team rider Nick Pairos took 1st place on his P5 Hammerhead and Andy Latham took 3rd on his P5 Hammerhead. Nick is quickly progressing and you will see him in the Outlaw ranks next year. In Amatuer Women’s Skim, Christtany Harler took home 2nd Place on her P5 Leeo and will be looking to make some noise in the Outlaw division next year. In the Outlaw Men Skim, P5 team rider Anthony Edwards from England took 2nd Place on his P5 Matrix in a stacked division. In the Outlaw Women Skim, P5 team rider Lara Latham took 2nd Place on her P5 Matrix and will surely be taking a swing at the Pro ranks next year with the way she has been riding. In the Masters Men Skim, P5 team rider Eric Grindland took 2nd Place on his P5 Hammerhead. We can’t wait to see him nail that big spin!

In the Professional ranks, P5 team rider John Akerman took 3rd in Pro Mens Skim on his new Pro Model MVP. The result doesn’t do the justice with how much he got the crowd pumped up on his final pass when he landed the Sushi roll and went straight into a 540 big spin at the final buoy. If you haven’t seen the clip of it you need to check it out. He took home Male Rider of the Year to cap off the season and he looks to carry that momentum into next year. In the Pro Women’s Skim, P5 team rider Jodi Grassman took home her first World Title on her Pro Model P5 Leeo and P5 team rider Brittney Nyrose finished third on her P5 Luv. We think this will be the first of many World titles for Jodi but she has worked hard for this one and we couldn’t be happier for her. She also won Female Rider of the Year, Female Best Trick, and 1st overall in the WRS ranking system for the year. She had a heavy suitcase on the way home with all those trophies!

The P5 family couldn’t be more proud of the way all of our riders performed and carried themselves at World’s and the contest season as a whole. We want to thank everyone behind the scenes who made the event possible and all the riders that made the trek to Canada to make it happen. It is always great to see everyone at the contests and we look forward to doing it all over again next year!
