Phase 5 team rider Dagen Duczek joined over 3000 athletes, coaches and officials in the 2024 BC Summer Games this summer, bringing home multiple medals.

The BC Games is the only competition in British Columbia (Canada) that brings athletes from both the Waterski and Wake sports together to compete at the same venue. Waterski consisted of Slalom, Trick and Jump while Wake events included Wakesurf, Wake Board, and Wake Skate.  Athletes compete in their primary sport but are given the opportunity to compete in other disciples to a maximum of 3 total.

Dagen was part of the Kootenay Zone 1 Towed Watersport Team and took gold in Wakesurf before deciding to throw his hat in the ring in both Wakeskate and Wakeboard.  He ended up winning Gold in Wakeskate and Bronze in Wakeboard.  The Zone 1 team, which was also awarded the silver medal for the second-highest points in watersport for the weekend.

The BC Winter and BC Summer Winter Games were established in 1978 to bring young people around BC together through sport and friendship. Over 2200 athletes competed in the 2024 games, which were held in Maple Ridge, BC near Vancouver. Teams bunked in local schools, shared group meals, and traveled to the event site on busses nearly 45 minutes away in nearby Abbotsford before re-boarding a chartered jet at the end of the four days and flying the Zone 1 team back home.

Dagen’s older brother Ryder, who is also a member of the Phase 5 team, stepped in as the Zone 1 Towed Watersport Coach this year, so was able to share in this memorable experience from a different perspective.

Ryder and Dagen both ride the Phase 5 Matrixbehind a 2022 Axis T250 from SWS Marine Group and train at Tie Lake, BC. They have been part of the Phase 5 team since 2018 and are currently looking forward to competing at Canadian Nationals in early September.
