We would like to introduce another one of our newest team riders, Adam Wheeler. Adam lives in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho with his wife and fellow P5 team rider Caitlin Wheeler. Lets catch up and get to know Adam:
Home Lake: Hayden Lake
Current Sponsors: P5, Centurion Boats, Stancraft Marine, Defiant Coffee
What Board are you riding? 51 Matrix
Why Wakesurfing? I have loved being on the water from a young age. It started with wakeboarding, but after 5 knee surgeries, I eventually found my way to wakesurfing. I like the challenge of figuring out new tricks along with the very minimal consequences of crashing. It is a sport you can continue to progress in at any age. Some of my best memories and opportunities in life have come from wakesurfing. I’ve met a lot of really cool people through surfing who I now consider good friends.
Most Prized Possession: Our dogs, Riley and Gunner. I also just bought my first electric guitar about a month ago (a Fender Stratocaster) and can’t stop playing—I’m hooked!
If you’re not Wakesurfing? Hiking with our dogs, playing guitar, video editing
Favorite Music: Rock, 90’s Hip Hop, EDM, Indie, Reggae – I like a lot of music!
Any other Careers? I am a full-time Physical Therapist specializing in Orthopedics. I also do a lot of Wakesurf coaching in the summer with our business “Surfs Up North Idaho”.
How do you stay healthy? Lift weights occasionally, yoga sometimes, but mostly just eat healthy and surf/hike as much as possible.
What do you do in your off season? Flowrider, Snowboard, and shovel snow off my driveway! Planning to do more traveling to warmer climates in the winters to surf with friends in the future.
Tips to a rider who just bought their first Phase 5? I would say good call on investing in a Phase 5, it really makes all the difference to ride a top tier board—whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider! And if you want to progress your skills, there is nothing better than getting lessons/coaching. You will progress much faster than on your own and not develop bad habits which are very hard to break. I learned a lot from Caro Villeneuve (H20School) back in the day when I was an amateur rider. Lessons with her were priceless. My wife, Caitlin, just spent some time in Florida with Sean and Tarzan (WakesurfOrlando) and said they are excellent coaches as well. Find a coach in your area or travel to one, it’s well worth the investment!
